Stories from the Verandah are self-contained short stories written and narrated by Roger Underwood AM, who has been recognised for decades of service ... to forestry and bushfire management in WA. These stories were edited by Jenny Davis AM and produced by Tony Howes, with a soundscape created by Edo Brands. These were recorded at Theatre 180 in their Como Theatre. Roger has over 60 years’ experience as a firefighter, a district, regional and research manager in WA forests, and a bushfire consultant in Australia and overseas. A pioneer of aerial burning and the use of fire spotter aircraft. General Manager of the Department of Conservation and Land Management in WA (1985-94), and later, Director of a consultancy practice with a focus on bushfire management. The author of numerous scientific papers, articles and books on bushfire management and bushfire and forest history in WA. Founder (in 2003), and Chairman (for 20 years), of the Bushfire Front. Roger was awarded a National Medal for 15 years fire service and became a Member of the Order of Australia (AM) in 2019 in recognition of his contribution to bushfire management and history.

March 2022 was the 80th Anniversary of the advent of the Avro Lancaster Bomber. ... This special tribute was recorded under the wings and actually within the Lancaster bomber in the RAAF Association’s Museum in Bull Creek, Perth - one of only two Lancasters remaining in Australia. During the recording Capital Community Radio’s Outside Broadcasting team and a group of amateur radio enthusiasts led by Dennis Brown were able to communicate with commemoration organisers in Canada and the UK, and also to record an interview with 100-year-old former bomber pilot Doug Arrowsmith.
